Feeling Tired During Pregnancy? It May Not Be Normal

Feeling tired is common during pregnancy. But if you’re exhausted all the time, don’t simply assume it’s part of pregnancy.

Feeling constantly tired, dizzy, or breathless during simple activities may be signs of low iron levels or iron deficiency anaemia.

Why Is Iron Important During Pregnancy?

During pregnancy, your body produces more blood to support both you and your growing baby. As a result, your iron needs increase, and it may be challenging to meet these needs through diet alone.

A balanced diet and appropriate prenatal supplementation can help support your increased nutritional needs.

Iron and Calcium: Don’t Take Them Together

If you’ve been advised to take both iron and calcium supplements, remember to take them at different times. Calcium can interfere with iron absorption, so spacing them apart can help your body absorb iron more effectively.

Listen to Your Body

Tiredness can be part of pregnancy, but extreme or persistent fatigue shouldn’t be ignored.

If you’re concerned about your iron intake or experiencing ongoing tiredness, dizziness or breathlessness, speak with your doctor or pharmacist for appropriate advice.
